At the Winery
Winery
Frankland Estate was founded in 1988 by Barrie Smith and Judi Cullam on the Smith family sheep property. Thirty years earlier Californian agronomist Dr Harold Olmo identified Frankland River as one of Australia's most promising sites.
Buried deep in Western Australia's most isolated wine region, Frankland Estate is located 250 kilometres east of Margaret River, inland from the Southern Ocean coastline. Since 2010 second generation winemaker Hunter Smith has been joined at the winery by brother-in-law Brian Kent. They have determinedly set about focusing on every detail of their technique, and – most importantly – implementing organic viticultural practices, believing a wine's most significant character stems straight from the soil.
Frankland Estate is one of Australia's leading Riesling producers. Their wines express the pristine environment in which they are grown. Their leading Smith Cullam range shares the limelight with their Olmo’s Reward Cabernet Franc.
