Smith Cullam Syrah
Wine
Frankland Estate Smith Cullam Syrah is made in limited quantities and only in the best vintages. It is named after estate's founders Barrie Smith and Judi Cullam.
The Syrah (Shiraz) fruit is grown on the original Winery Block on the Isolation Ridge Vineyard, planted in 1988. The site is certified organic.
The fruit is fermented as destemmed whole berries in small, shallow open pot fermenters. Hand plunging keeps the ferment as even and gentle as possible, minimizing the extraction of harsh characters.
A short post ferment maceration on skins brings the tannins into balance. The wine then matures in a 3,500 litre French oak foudre (vat).
Deep crimson purple, Frankland Estate Smith Cullam Syrah has a perfumed fruit core with tightly wound acidity and tannins providing a line of ferrous minerality.
A brooding cool climate Shiraz. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
