Alter Weg Riesling

Frankland Estate Alter Weg Riesling is Riesling made the 'old way' (alter weg in German). It begins with ripe, balanced fruit picked as cool as possible.

Parcels from individual blocks are kept separate in the winery. The grapes are immediately pressed using a slow press to ensure soft extraction of the juice.

After settling in tank overnight, the cloudy juice is run to a combination of 500 and 1,000 litre barrels. It is then fermented with wild yeasts, reaching a somewhat higher temperature than it would if fermented in tank.

Post ferment, the barrels are topped up and left until spring. At the desired level of residual sugar, the wine is sulphured. In total it spends 10 months in barrel on lees.

Pale gold, Frankland Estate Alter Weg Riesling has pure fruit flavours, fresh minerality and a soft, creamy texture. Cellaring potential is seven years.
