Established in 1965, Forest Hill Vineyard was initially developed by the Department of Agriculture as an 'experiment' on the Pearce family's property. It passed through the hands of Vasse Felix before being purchased by the Lyons family in 1996.
These Mount Barker plantings pioneered cool climate viticulture in Great Southern. Today the gnarled vines produce low yields of small, intensely flavoured berries. Warm, dry summers with cool, wet winters, along with gravelly loam soils and the influence of the Southern and Indian Oceans, amplify the fruit's slow ripening. The vines are dry grown and managed sustainably. Forest Hill also draw from younger plantings and the nearby Highbury Fields Vineyard.
Forest Hill Vineyard are known for their Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Shiraz. The premium Block series, first produced in 2005 and made from select parcels of old vine fruit, leads the way.
