Rhonda and Stephen Doyle established Bloodwood in the spring of 1983. Taking their chances, they planted the first commercial wine grape vineyard at Orange in the New South Wales high country, pioneering the region.

Estate grown fruit is the enduring foundation of Bloodwood. Their original Griffin Road vineyards are sited at over 800 metres altitude where the climate is consistently cool. The cool climate presents its challenges, but slopes of free draining gravel trap warmth and lessen the dangers of frost. In the winery they capture the fruit's regional character in an identifiably Bloodwood style, with minimal handling and minimal additions.

Bloodwood's Schubert Chardonnay, red blend Maurice, and sweet Silk Purse Riesling stand out. Their other estate grown varieties are Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Pinot Noir.
