Wine

Bloodwood Shiraz blends fruit from two estate blocks. Though the sites are identical in age, clone and trellising, they differ in altitude and soil type, each producing fruit with distinct characters.

The Top Shiraz (grown at 840 metres elevation in gravelly soils) and Bottom Shiraz (820 metres, in darker, richer soils) are handled separately in the winery. Yet in typical Bloodwood style, both see plenty of oxygenation.

A high portion of whole berries are included in the ferments, and regular hand plunging and pump overs shape the tannins. The wine matures for two years in mostly seasoned French oak prior to bottling.

Dark cherry red, Bloodwood Shiraz has spicy, ripe dark fruit flavours and persistent yet finely integrated oak tannins. Cellaring potential is seven years.
