Winery
Former archaeology student Phil Sexton transformed a cleared block of land into the Devil's Lair vineyard in 1981. He named the winery after a nearby hidden cave with evidence of 40,000 year old human habitation.
Now under Treasury Wine Estates ownership, his Margaret River vineyards have been substantially upgraded and grapes are now supplemented from contract growers. Devil's Lair encourages biodiversity. At the winery, each batch of fruit is handled separately to promote its unique character before being blended to create the final wine. The approach is to be meticulous, to continually question, and to refine a style that is as much about intuition as it is about science.
Devil's Lair makes renowned Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. Their leading 9th Chamber range established the winery's reputation. The Dance with the Devil and The Hidden Cave ranges have a wider market.
