Reginald Purbrick purchased a run down Tahbilk as an investment in 1925. Seven years later his son Eric set about reviving the winery's reputation; today five generations of Purbricks have left their mark on the winery.

Established in 1860 Tahbilk is in the Nagambie Lakes region of central Victoria. It comprises 1,214 hectares of rich river flats with a frontage of 11 kilometres to the Goulburn River, with eight kilometres of permanent backwaters. The vineyard benefits from the property's rich sandy loam soils and temperate climate. While Tahbilk uses modern techniques for making their whites, they still make their reds using the traditional techniques initiated by Eric Purbrick.

Tahbilk is one of Australia's national treasures. Tahbilk's flagship 1860 Vines Shiraz is made from the original 1860 plantings. Their Marsanne, some of the oldest vines in the world, is used for the iconic 1927 Vines Marsanne.
