1860 Vines Shiraz
Wine
Tahbilk 1860 Vines Shiraz is a piece of liquid history, produced from just 0.5 hectares of the original ungrafted estate plantings established in 1860. These vines are among the oldest in the world.
They have stood the test of time. They have survived Phylloxera – the vine louse that decimated vineyards across Europe and came to Tahbilk in the late 1800s – as well as droughts, floods and killer frosts.
The winery's approach to red winemaking is traditional: it has scarcely changed since these vines were planted in 1860. After careful handpicking, the fruit is fermented in a century old open oak vat.
Maturation occurs over 18 months in French oak barrels, typically 50% new
The wine is then bottled and cellared for four years prior to release. Appropriately Tahbilk's original 1870s label has been recreated for this rare wine.
Deep crimson, Tahbilk 1860 Vines Shiraz flows seamlessly between rich fruit flavours and fine grained tannin, supported by earthy notes and subtle spice. The finish is prodigiously long.
Elegance and balance in a glass. Cellaring potential is 20 years.
