Winery

In 1996 Paul and Caroline Scorpo saw the untapped potential of a defunct cherry and apple orchard at Merricks North on the Mornington Peninsula. They planted vines the following year and launched the Scorpo Wines label in 2002.

Scorpo is nestled in rolling hills halfway between Port Phillip and Westernport Bays, perfect for cool climate varietals. Pinot Noir predominates, with Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Shiraz. They grow on soils derived from ancient Eocene volcanos, on steep north-north-east facing slopes that provide a brilliant suntrap and ideal drainage. In the winery the aim is to express New World flavours and the unique characters of their location in the Old World style.

Scorpo Wines take inspiration from the greats of Burgundy for their Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Alsace for their Pinot Gris and Côte Rôtie for their Shiraz. The Eocene Single Vineyard Chardonnay is the most notable.
