Winery
In 1980 Harry Friend and his wife Val planted their first vines on his parents' dairy farm, establishing Narkoojee (meaning 'place of flowers'). Today their son Axel is both vineyard manager and winemaker.
Narkoojee is in central Gippsland near the old gold mining town of Walhalla and looks out to the Strzelecki Ranges. The region is known for its cool climate, yet the winery is uniquely positioned to enjoy warmer, drier, sunnier conditions. Their lyre trellis system – rarely used in Gippsland – increases sunlight and air circulation in the vines for optimum quality fruit. Plantings include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet and Shiraz, among others.
Narkoojee's leading Valerie label is made from exceptional barrels. It features a Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz. The Reserve range is at the next price point. The Premium range follows behind.
