Winery
In 1984 the Pike family, historically beer brewers, purchased 27 hectares of prime viticultural land in the heart of the Clare Valley, establishing Pikes. Their distinctive English Pike fish logo has been used by the family since the 1880s.
Pikes lies at Polish Hill River on the considerably cooler eastern side of the Clare Valley. The vineyard is planted with a range of varieties including Clare Valley stalwarts Riesling, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. They spill over east to south-east facing slopes that protect them from the afternoon sun on hot summer days. At Pikes, the modern and traditional combine in the winery to produce wines that celebrate their Polish Hill River origin.
Pikes highlights are the Merle Reserve Riesling and E.W.P. Reserve Shiraz, named after the Pike family matriarch and patriarch Merle and Edgar Walter Pike. Their Traditionale Riesling is also noteworthy.
