In 1971 Dr John and Marli Middleton founded Mount Mary during the Yarra Valley's resurgence as a premium wine region. Today their son David is CEO and in 2011 his son Sam, the Middleton's grandson, became winemaker.

Wanting to emulate the best wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy Dr John Middleton was a perfectionist. The four Mount Mary estate wines he originated comprise two traditional Bordeaux blends, Quintet and Triolet, and the two traditional Burgundy varieties, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. After careful trials several Rhône Valley varieties have been introduced. Mount Mary maintains a sustainable viticultural system to ensure the long term future of the site.

Mount Mary is one of Australia's great small wineries. The flagships remain the wines that founded Mount Mary's reputation. They produce premium single estate wines under three labels: Mount Mary Vineyard, Marli Russell and Reflexion.
