Marli Russell RP1
Wine
Mount Mary Marli Russell RP1 is the white wine expression of the winery's Rhône Project, which explores the vineyard's potential to produce Rhône varieties. It is named to honour Mount Mary co-founder Marli Middleton (née Russell).
The grapes grow on a site next to the original Mount Mary vineyard. At first the wine comprised only Marsanne and Roussanne; however, from the 2016 vintage, a small proportion of the variety Clairette has been added to the blend.
Barrel fermentation, lees stirring and relatively hard pressing builds texture and depth of flavour, while fostering length and intensity.
Pale straw, Mount Mary Marli Russell RP1 is the sum of its parts. The Marsanne provides fruit sweetness; the Roussanne naturally high acidity and structure; and the Clairette adds complexity. Cellaring potential is five years.
