Innocent Bystander was founded in 2004 by Phil Sexton. In 2016 Brown Brothers bought the business and re-opened it right across the car park from Giant Steps in Healesville, where previously they were housed under the same roof.
Fruit from multiple vineyards (not just the Yarra Valley) is blended to create a consistent style from year to year. The Yarra Valley's mix of cool mountainside vineyards and warmer valley floor sites produce fruit with great complexity – especially Syrah, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. For varieties unsuited to the Yarra Valley, Innocent Bystander work with growers in other regions – King Valley Prosecco, Swan Hill Moscato and Heathcote Tempranillo.
Innocent Bystander's Mea Culpa range is made with the best quality parcels. Now with Brown Brothers, they also produce large volume offerings of Moscato and Prosecco. The wines come at an attractive price for the quality.
