At the Winery

In search of terroir to rival that of his native Bordeaux, ninth generation French winemaker Dominique Portet chose the cool climate of Australia’s Yarra Valley for the winery he founded in 2000. His son Ben is now in charge.
At Dominique Portet the French influence is palpable. Dominique Portet's father was the vineyard and winery manager of Château Lafite-Rothschild in Pauillac. Bordeaux style reds dominate the varietals they produce, rather than the usual Yarra Valley Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Their vineyard is all about sophisticated simplicity. The Portet family now boasts 10 consecutive generations of winemaking in a dynasty that began in Bordeaux in the 18th century.
Dominique Portet is celebrated for their Cabernet Sauvignon. Their leading André Pierre Cabernet Sauvignon is named after Dominique Portet's father. They also make outstanding méthode traditionnelle sparkling wines.
