Christian Auricht settled in Langmeil in 1842 planting what is now one of the world's oldest surviving Shiraz vineyards. After falling into disrepair, Langmeil has been restored by the Lindner family, producing their first vintage in 1997.

Ten rows of pre-1860 Shiraz vines, saved from the developer's bulldozer and transplanted one by one, grow alongside Auricht's original vines. Langmeil own a number of predominantly dry grown vineyards that are managed with sustainable viticulture to ensure the vines remain in balance with nature. They also source fruit from growers in diverse vineyard sites across the Barossa and Eden Valleys. At the winery they practise minimal intervention.

Langmeil is known for their dedication to the preservation of the Barossa's wine heritage. Their flagship is The Freedom 1843 Shiraz, named for Auricht who fled his native Prussia to escape religious persecution.
