The Freedom 1843 Shiraz
Wine
Langmeil The Freedom 1843 Shiraz is a single vineyard wine made from vines planted in 1843 by founder Christian Auricht. He gained freedom in the Barossa Valley, escaping religious persecution in Prussia.
The vines at the Tanunda property are some of the oldest and rarest Shiraz vines in the world. They grow in rich loam and red clay over limestone and ironstone.
The fruit is handpicked from the original plantings. After destemming, it ferments in an open fermenter with pump overs twice daily for a week. The juice is drained and the skins gently basket pressed.
Minimal handling captures the potential of the fruit. After malolactic fermentation, the wine ages for 24 months in predominantly new American and French oak. There is no fining and only minimal filtering.
Deep crimson purple, Langmeil The Freedom 1843 Shiraz is aromatic and textured with rich fruit flavours, briary sweet spice and silky tannins finishing long. Cellaring potential is 15 years.
