In 1968 Queensland wine industry pioneers Angelo and Mary Puglisi planted their first block on the Granite Belt, establishing Ballandean Estate. Today daughters Robyn and Leeanne continue the family tradition.
Ballandean Estate's free draining granitic soils, cool climate and high altitude – at over 800 metres above sea level, one of Australia's highest wine regions – create outstanding growing conditions. Cold nights at the end of the growing season mean the grapes ripen slowly, while the granite soils reflect heat onto the fruit, ensuring ripening. The result is Ballandean's signature medium bodied wines, with strong flavour and refined tannins.
The Ballandean Estate highlights are Generation 3 Shiraz Cabernet and Opera Block Shiraz. Their Messing About wines are made with alternative varieties, or are new takes on traditional varieties.
