At the Winery
Winery
d'Arenberg was established in 1912 when Joseph Osborn, a teetotaller and director of Thomas Hardy & Sons, sold his stable of prize winning horses to purchase the property. Fourth generation Chester Osborn inherited the winery from his father d'Arry in 1984.
Minimal input viticulture is practised across the large number of d'Arenberg owned, leased and contracted McLaren Vale vineyards. This encourages strong root systems to penetrate multiple levels of soil, ensuring yields are kept low, resulting in concentrated flavours and natural acidity. Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache predominate. Walking the vineyard rows tasting grapes, Chester Osborn classifies and decides the ideal picking time for each vineyard.
d'Arenberg is a quirky mix of the traditional and innovative with an extraordinary output. There are over 60 wines, 10 ranges and 25 different grape varieties, from the best value red stripe The Originals to The Supers, The Icons and Limited Release premium ranges.
