Winery

American Will Berliner with Australian wife Alison Jobson founded Cloudburst in 2005 and produced their first vintage in 2010. The vineyard is adjacent to the Leeuwin National Park and extends down to the edge of the Indian Ocean.

The cooling maritime conditions mitigate warm daytime temperatures, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and gather flavour gradually. Vines are close planted to deepen flavour within the grapes. The vineyard is biodynamic, dry farmed and does not employ machinery, with all pruning and trellising done by hand. The wine, at first contract made at the nearby Woodlands winery, is now made in Cloudburst’s own small winery next to their house.

Cloudburst produce a Cabernet, Chardonnay and Malbec. Cloudburst is in short supply. By Australian standards the prices are not cheap; still, compared with premium Californian wines, they are not undue.
