Winery
With the encouragement of Rockford's Robert O'Callaghan, Chris Ringland bought a neglected vineyard property in the Barossa Ranges in 1994. It took him 10 years of pruning and re-trellising to restore the 1910 planted Shiraz vines.
Chris Ringland's vineyard sits 550 metres above sea level on a steep north-east facing hillside sheltered from southerly storms. The roots extend deep into the underlying decomposed podzolic clay. Chris Ringland Barossa Ranges Shiraz is made from this vineyard. The North Barossa Vintners (NBV) collaboration of Chris Ringland and fifth generation grape grower Adrian Hoffmann sources fruit from the Hoffmann and other family vineyards near Ebenezer for the NBV label wines.
Chris Ringland’s reputation was forged in the early 1990s with his Three Rivers Shiraz. American critic Robert Parker described it as "Arguably the greatest Shiraz made in Australia". Barossa Ranges Shiraz is its direct descendant.
