Angelo and Wendy Diletti established Castle Rock Estate in 1981. Originally the wines were made at Alkoomi, but they built their own winemaking facilities in time for the 2001 vintage. Today son Robert Diletti is the winemaker.
Castle Rock Estate is set high in the Porongurup Ranges. Just 40 kilometres north of Albany in Western Australia, the Southern Ocean is close by. Windchill from the Antarctic is ever present in the vines. The vineyard's northerly aspect and the cooling south-easterly breezes prolong the growing season, enabling the fruit to develop maximum flavour. The two-level winery takes advantage of the land's natural slope, allowing gravity, not machines, to gently handle the wine.
Castle Rock Estate is best known for its Riesling. The A&W Riesling is their finest example, with the Porongurup and Skywalk Rieslings following. Their Pinot Noir is also a highlight.
