Wolfgang Franz Otto Blass, the youngest Masters in Oenology graduate from Veitschoechheim-Wuerzberg, immigrated to the Barossa Valley from Germany in 1961. Soon after, in 1966, he established Wolf Blass.
The winery's heartland Medlands Vineyard lies within an exceptional pocket of ground at Dorrien on the north Barossa Valley floor, a site long renowned for growing outstanding Shiraz. Sloping towards the North Para River, the microclimate benefits from cooling breezes flowing down river and enjoys optimum sunlight, low rainfall and low humidity. To blend across vineyards, varieties and regions, Wolf Blass also source grapes from vineyards throughout South Australia.
Wolf Blass' iconic Black Label Cabernet Shiraz Malbec and Platinum Label Medlands Estate Shiraz were joined by The Master Cabernet Shiraz in 2020. The Grey and Gold labels are more approachable.
