Winery
Fourth generation Coonawarra farmers George and Pat Lynn established Majella in 1968. At first the Lynns were purely grape growers. In 1991 they made their first wines at Brand's Laira, building their own winery in 1998.
Majella's vineyards are at the Coonawarra's eastern edge. Its terra rossa is regarded as one of the world's premium viticultural soils. All the wines are sustainably grown in the vineyard surrounding the winery. About 55% is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% to Shiraz and the remainder to Merlot and Riesling. Winemaker Bruce Gregory has made all Majella's wines from the first vintages at Brand's Laira, today assisted by Michael Marcus.
Majella are famed for their red wines, led by the GPL68 Cabernet Sauvignon and The Malleea which has earned a reputation as one of Coonawarra's leading wines. At $20 The Musician is exceptional value.
