Scott Ireland and partner Jen Lilburn established Provenance in 1997, with Sam Vogel coming on board as co-winemaker in 2006 and later as co-owner. Provenance opened their cellar door at the historic Fyansford Paper Mill in Geelong in 2018.
Provenance have a patchwork of vineyards across south-west Victoria including Geelong, Ballarat, Macedon and Henty. Each site is chosen specifically to match their cool climate varieties down to soil, weather and elevation. A light touch approach to viticulture and focus on soil health allows them to grow grapes that truly represent their vineyard provenance. Preserving a pure sense of place forms the overarching philosophy from vine to glass.
Provenance produce pure regional expressions of cool climate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Nebbiolo. Of note are the Henty Chardonnay and Geelong Pinot Noir.
