Winery
Dr Mike Peterkin established Pierro in 1979. While still making wine for Kevin and Di Cullen (and marrying a Cullen) he was the first in Margaret River to produce two wine styles – Semillon Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Merlot.
With ocean on three sides, the vineyard is swept by cool sea breezes from the Indian and Southern Oceans. The vines grow on rolling gravel hills formed by the dissecting Wilyabrup Brook. Against then accepted practice Dr Mike Peterkin employed canopy management and controlled irrigation systems from day one. Pierro irrigation mimics natural rainfall, giving the vines a good drink when they need it – just like a typical summer shower – rather than using trickle or drip feeding.
Pierro's Chardonnay and Reserve Cabernet Merlot are among Australia's best. Their Semillon Sauvignon Blanc is another highlight. As well as the Pierro label, they also produce the Fire Gully brand.
