Chardonnay
Wine
Pierro Chardonnay is the first lady of the Pierro household. The grapes are handpicked from narrow, high density vine rows sloping down to the Wilyabrup Brook in Margaret River.
Pierro’s Dr Mike Peterkin originally intended to specialize in Riesling. After a vine supplier was let down on a large order of Chardonnay, Peterkin purchased the vines at a discount and planted the variety instead.
It was an inspired decision. Today, Pierro Chardonnay is one of the finest in Margaret River, Australia's premier Chardonnay producing region.
The fruit is hand sorted and gently whole bunch pressed. Fermentation is in new and one year old French oak barriques, followed by malolactic fermentation. Over 12 months of maturation, the wine's lees are stirred regularly.
Straw with a green edge, Pierro Chardonnay is a wine of great finesse and power. It is tightly structured with generous stone fruit flavours, taut acidity and a long finish.
A world class Chardonnay. Cellaring potential is five years.
