At the Winery
Winery
In 1999, while inspecting their Narrikup property for purchase, Alex and Janet Taylor were mistaken for sheep rustlers. It seemed fitting to name the winery Poacher's Ridge. Today sons Marcus and Andrew are active in the business.
Poacher's Ridge is still a small, family run winery just outside Mount Barker in Great Southern. Its elevated ridge forges a rambling path for cooling, salted winds from the Southern Ocean to weave through the vines. Plantings are Riesling, Marsanne, Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Soils are rich in minerals with yields at the mercy of the seasons. Minimal intervention at the winery seeks to express the cold, worn landscape.
Poacher's Ridge Louis' Block Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Malbec are highlights. Poacher's Ridge are a dedicated small batch winemaker, producing a range of cool climate, medium bodied varietals.
