Winery
After journeying to wineries in the USA, France and Spain, winemaker Andrew Marks returned to his family's Gembrook Hill vineyard in the Upper Yarra and established his own label The Wanderer in 2005.
Heir to the family vineyard where he is both winemaker and viticulturalist, The Wanderer brand allows Andrew Marks to play with fruit from other vineyards. He sources grapes from low yielding vineyards across the Yarra Valley, including Dixons Creek in the north and Yellingbo in the south. In the winery he works to the principle of minimal intervention: taste regularly and touch rarely, aiming to showcase the unique nature of each vineyard.
The Wanderer makes single vineyard Pinot Noir, Syrah (Shiraz) and Chardonnay. The wines are precise and detailed. With only small quantities made, they have gained something of a cult following.
