In 1975 Michael and Annabelle Waugh purchased an uninhabited cottage next to Greenock Creek with an adjacent orchard planted with old Shiraz vines. Greenock Creek's first wines were released 13 years later.
Today under new ownership, with several vineyards on the edge of the Barossa Valley, Greenock Creek has prospered. Because they don’t use contract fruit, production varies year to year; however limited quantities are the norm. Their dry grown low yielding vines produce wines of unusual depth of flavour and character. The grapes from each block are kept separate and vinified in individual batches. In the winery they follow traditional methods.
With rave reviews and success in the US market Greenock Creek now has cult status. Their lead Roennfeldt Road Shiraz and Roennfeldt Road Cabernet Sauvignon are made from century old vines.
