Winery
Bellarmine was established in 2000 by German resident couple Dr Willi Schumacher and his wife Gudrun. They purchased a property bordering the Lefroy River and named it Bellarmine after a 16th century German stoneware wine jug.
At 220 metres above sea level, the vineyard looks from the cool climate Pemberton region out to the south-west Australian coastline. Bellarmine pioneered Pemberton Riesling as well as growing varieties more familiar to the region including Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. With the 100 Year Forest their neighbour, the vines grow on red gravel over limestone, which soak up the sunshine keeping the roots warm at night, ensuring small yields of quality fruit.
Bellarmine famously make three different styles of Riesling, each with varying levels of sweetness and alcohol: Riesling Dry, Riesling Half-Dry and Riesling Select. These are the highlights.
