Bay of Fires grew out of B.R.L. Hardy's quest for great sparkling wine. Sparkling specialist Ed Carr investigated all the likely cool mainland growing sites before settling on Tasmania. In 2002 the winery and brand were established.
Tasmania's climate is significantly cooler than the mainland, with long summer daylight and maritime influences, ideal conditions for slow, consistent fruit development. As well as their own vineyards, Bay of Fires source their Chardonnay and Pinot Noir fruit from vineyards in southern Tasmania. In mastering the art of blending sparkling wine, Ed Carr has realized his long term vision to release a single vintage wine with a minimum of eight years age.
Bay of Fires is internationally known for their sparkling wines. Released under the Arras label they are headed by the EJ Carr Late Disgorged. Other highlights include Arras Blanc de Blancs, Arras Rosé and Arras Grand Vintage.
