At the Winery
Winery
In 1998 Peter and Therese Stark established Boireann in the Granite Belt south-west of Brisbane, siting their vineyard in a small valley surrounded by huge granite boulders. In 2017, vineyard manager Brad Rowe took over at the winery.
The vineyard has the high altitude and distinctive soils of finely decomposed granite which characterize the Granite Belt. The name Boireann is inspired by the Irish Gaelic word meaning 'rocky ground'. At 875 metres above sea level, cool nights during the growing season delay fruit ripening and allow the grapes to develop intense flavours. In the winery they use traditional methods – open fermentation, basket pressing and barrel ageing.
Boireann specialize in cool climate reds. Producing a mix of French and Italian varieties, highlights include their Shiraz Viognier, Bordeaux blend The Lurnea, La Cima Nebbiolo and Tannat.
