In 1870 Richard Bailey and his son Varley produced their first vintage at Glenrowan. Now part of Casella Family Brands, Baileys of Glenrowan and its heritage listed buildings are a prominent tourist attraction.
After the phylloxera outbreak in the 1890s the Baileys replanted with phylloxera resistant rootstock in 1904. The vineyard is situated at the foot of the Warby Ranges. With cool air flowing down from the ranges, in the hot summer months the nearby wetlands act like a giant air conditioner, cooling the land and vineyards at night. Baileys of Glenrowan practices traditional winemaking, including the use of a restored century old basket press.
Baileys of Glenrowan 1904 and 1920s block Shiraz vines are still producing wine. Along with Varley Shiraz, they are the highlights. Baileys of Glenrowan's fortified Muscat and Topaque are also of note.
