Peter Dawson and Tim James met in 1976 while working for Thomas Hardy & Sons. After sharing and discussing wine for more than 30 years, Dawson James produced their first vintage in 2010.

Their ambition to make great Pinot Noir and Chardonnay drew them to Tasmania's cool climate and to Gerald and Sue Ellis's Meadowbank Vineyard north-west of Hobart. The vineyard, first planted in 1974, is one of Tasmania's finest. Bounded by the fast flowing, pristine waters of the Derwent River, at an elevation of 70 metres above the river, the vineyard has a north-easterly aspect, optimal for capturing sunlight for grape ripening.

Dawson James make acclaimed Pinot Noir and Chardonnay focusing solely on these two varieties. Quality and innovation are what drives them. Their grapes are processed at the Bay of Fires winery.
