Circe is the partnership of Dan Buckle and Aaron Drummond, inspired by growing up on the Mornington Peninsula and a love of Pinot Noir. They began Circe in 2009 while working at Mount Langi Ghiran, ironically while making Shiraz.
In Homer, Circe is an enchantress who all but brings Odysseus's journey home to an end. She is a metaphor for the seductions – and perils – of Pinot Noir. (Proof that an arts degree can at least help you with naming your business.)
To bring out the best in this fickle variety, Circe draw on some of the coldest vineyards at Red Hill including the Hillcrest Road Vineyard. Planted half to MV6 Pinot Noir and half to I-clone Chardonnay, it is dry grown on deep red volcanic basalt soils and managed for quality.
Circe's single vineyard Hillcrest Road wines lead. They also make Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from other small Mornington Peninsula vineyards, as well as a sparkling Blanc de Blancs.
