In 1998 Graham and Kaye Swinney diversified their family's Frankland River farming operations and established Swinney Vineyards. Today their children Matt and Janelle – fourth generation Swinneys – are the principals.

Swinney is inextricably linked to the cool, isolated Frankland River region. They focus on Syrah and Grenache bush vine viticulture. Growing vines this way is labour intensive – everything must be done by hand – but the low yields and intensely site specific flavours justify the effort. Swinney practice organic viticulture and intervene little in the vineyard. New technologies, such as 3D modelling and drones, provide them with a new understanding of their site.

The Farvie wines – made in a Syrah, Mourvèdre and Grenache – are the best of Swinney Vineyards. Syrah and Grenache are also a part of their core range, along with Riesling and Mourvèdre.
