In 1847 Johann Fiedler planted Shiraz on the banks of Bethany Creek, amid flocks of native bush turkeys. In 1987 the Schulz family saved Fiedler's vines from South Australia's Vine Pull Scheme and founded Turkey Flat.

Fiedler was the brother-in-law of Pastor Kavel, who led German emigrants to the Barossa Valley. After the phylloxera outbreak which devastated the vineyards of Europe in the late 1800s, today Fiedler's vines take their place among the oldest surviving Shiraz in the world. Four other nearby vineyards also contribute fruit. Shiraz and Grenache predominate. Turkey Flat wines are made in their Bethany Road winery using traditional methods.

Turkey Flat Ancestor 1847 Shiraz is the flagship, made with grapes from the original 1847 vines. Across the range, Turkey Flat wines offer intense flavours and exceptional value for their price.
