Named after a forest in Scotland, Torbreck was founded by David Powell in 1994 in the Barossa Valley. In 2008 Powell went into partnership with Pete and Terri Kight, proprietors of California’s Quivira Vineyards.

Torbreck's roots go back to 1992 when David Powell nurtured some old, dry grown Shiraz vines back to health while working at Rockford. Torbreck uses fruit from the very best vineyards in the Barossa Valley, home to some of the most precious old vines in the world. The Torbreck endeavour is based on the classic Barossa varieties Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro, and a love for the wines of France's Rhône Valley.

The Laird is Torbreck's flagship, made from one of the Barossa’s original Shiraz clones. Torbreck produce a long list of outstanding Barossa red wines, including RunRig, Les Amis and The Factor.
