Inspired by summer holidays in the south of France at vineyards rolling down to the Mediterranean, John and Wendy Mitchell founded Montalto in 1997. Still a family business, today it is run by daughter Heidi.
The Mornington Peninsula's mild maritime climate is ideal for the keynote varieties Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. As well as sourcing grapes from their own vineyard Montalto leases and manages several other sites across the Peninsula. They practise sustainable winemaking, tending their vines by hand with no irrigation and limited reliance on sprays. At the end of the day they believe it all comes down to balance, achieved through meticulous attention to detail.
Montalto's premium Single Vineyard range is a diverse selection. The Estate range showcases the best parcels of fruit from the winery's oldest sites. Bright regional blends make up the Pennon Hill range.
