Single Vineyard Merricks Pinot Noir
Wine
Montalto Single Vineyard Merricks Pinot Noir is a single site wine, grown entirely on the estate's Merricks Block on the maritime influenced Mornington Peninsula.
At low elevation and relatively inland, Merricks is a warmer area of a cool climate region. Sea breezes from Western Port Bay provide a temperate influence.
Most of the hand sorted grapes are destemmed into open fermenters to soak before wild fermentation. The remainder begin their ferment as whole bunches, then are destemmed to complete the ferment.
The wine is pressed and racked to one third new French oak for natural malolactic fermentation and 11 months of maturation.
Red purple, Montalto Single Vineyard Merricks Pinot Noir has sweet fruit flavours, sensuous tannins and a long, savoury finish. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
