In another life John Davis was a successful oil exploration geologist. Purchasing Pepper Tree in 2002 he fulfilled his objective of merging his vineyards with a high quality boutique winery. Today Pepper Tree is also a showpiece tourist attraction.
Crossing the line from geology to viticulture, John Davis selected vineyards in several of Australia's premium grape growing regions. The Davis family has vineyards at Tallavera Grove in the Hunter Valley, Orange in central New South Wales, Coonawarra on the Limestone Coast in South Australia and Wrattonbully just north of Coonawarra. Pepper Tree manage each of their vineyards, allowing them to match varieties to the regions where they excel.
Pepper Tree's Tallawanta and Coquun Shiraz, just like their Alluvius Semillon, are outstanding Hunter Valley varietals. Their P.J.P. and Block 21A Cabernet Sauvignon are Limestone Coast grown.
