Wine
Penfolds St. Henri Shiraz is a different expression of Shiraz and a deliberate counterpoint to the style of Penfolds Grange.
Invented by John Davoren in 1953 and first released in 1957, it gained popularity in the 1990s as its distinctive style became better understood. St. Henri remains a wine that has not succumbed to the dictates of fashion.
A multi-regional blend, the fruit is drawn from the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills, Clare Valley, Coonawarra and Magill Estate.
St. Henri does not rely on any new oak. Instead it is aged for 12 months in seasoned 1,460 litre vats that allow the fruit to develop its character. A small portion of Cabernet Sauvignon is sometimes added.
Deep crimson red, Penfolds St. Henri Shiraz has dark red fruit flavours, perfect poise and balance with fine, integrated tannins. Cellaring potential is 25 years.
