Brothers Matthew and Jonathan Hughes established Mewstone on the banks of the D'Entrecasteaux Channel in 2011, selecting a former cherry orchard in Tasmania's tiny hamlet of Flowerpot for their vineyard.

On gentle north facing slopes, Mewstone's vineyard captures the cool southern sunshine. Hills rise quickly from the D'Entrecasteaux Channel, offering the vines – mostly Pinot Noir with Chardonnay, Riesling and Syrah – protection from harsh westerly winds. Mewstone manage the vineyard from the ground up, pruning and harvesting by hand. Extensive use of mulches and composts ensure a vibrant ecosystem and healthy soils, translating into quality fruit on the vines above.

Minimal intervention allows Mewstone's core range to express the best of the site at Flowerpot. The Hughes & Hughes label, drawn from other local vineyards, allows winemaker Jonathan Hughes to be more daring.
