Silesian immigrants to the Barossa Valley in the 1840s, the Kaesler family planted their first vineyard in 1893. In 1999, winemaker Reid Bosward and partners became the third owners of the vineyards.
The Kaesler family owned and managed the dry grown vineyards for nearly a century, predominantly planting Shiraz. Having purchased premium old vine material, Reid Bosward set about producing bold estate wines emblematic of the Barossa Valley. These old vines, hand pruned and minimally watered, produce wine with a rich and intense fruit style. The winemaking is traditional, with parcels of fruit from individual blocks kept separate until blending.
Kaesler's Old Bastard Shiraz has paved the way. Several other wines have followed suit including the Alte Reben, Old Vine and The Bogan Shirazes. The Old Vine Semillon the best of their whites.
