Heggies Vineyard was founded in 1972 when Wyndham Hill-Smith, then manager of Yalumba, purchased Eden Valley grazing land from old school friend, Colin Heggie. Today the winery is part of Hill Smith Family Vineyards.

Heggies Vineyard lies in viticultural 'struggle country'. The winters are cold and wet, the summers are dry, the soils are gravelly and the vines are close planted, meaning they must compete vigorously for nutrients. Yet the struggle fosters flavour intensity. The Eden Valley's high altitude and year round cool climate mean the fruit enjoys slow ripening, further developing flavour. At the winery Heggies Vineyard practise minimal intervention winemaking.

Heggies Vineyard specializes in cool climate white wines. They produce Chardonnay at three tiers (Reserve, Estate and Cloudline) alongside their Estate Riesling and Estate Botrytis Riesling.
