Originally their holiday home, in the spring of 1972 Baillieu and Sarah Myer planted 400 vines on their Mornington Peninsula sheep grazing property, establishing Elgee Park as the Peninsula's first commercial vineyard.
Today the vineyard shares the property with cattle, quarter horses and a large collection of contemporary sculptures that sit in its stunning grounds. The vines cover 4.5 hectares of undulating land in a natural amphitheatre. With a northerly aspect, they look out across Port Phillip Bay towards the Melbourne skyline, enjoying a pocket of warmth in a cool maritime climate. Plantings include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and some of Australia's oldest Viognier.
Elgee Park engage leading contract winemakers to make their wines in Elgee Park's signature style. They produce only small, premium parcels of wine. Their cellar door is at Merricks General Store.
