Winery
Adjacent to the Clare Valley's historic Gaelic cemetery, Gaelic Cemetery Vineyard was established in 1996 as a joint venture between Neil and Andrew Pike of Pikes Wines and vigneron Grant Arnold. In 2019 it was sold to new owners.
Gaelic Cemetery Vineyard grows in soils of gravelly loam with limestone over red yellow clay. The site was first planted to Shiraz and Riesling on east facing slopes, with subsequent smaller plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. It is one of the earliest ripening vineyards in the Clare Valley, delivering low yields of flavourful fruit. Sustainable viticultural practices prevail. In the winery minimal intervention ensures their wines deliver a distinct sense of place.
Gaelic Cemetery Vineyard produce Rieslings in a modern, dry, Australian style and reds that balance fruit sweetness and savouriness. Their McAskill wines lead, made in a Riesling, Cabernet Malbec and Shiraz.
