At the Winery
Winery
Australia's first boutique winery, Lake's Folly was established by Dr Max Lake in 1963. Peter and Lee Fogarty purchased the property in 2000. Lake's Folly is near Pokolbin, a short drive north of Sydney.
The vineyards are a rare combination of volcanic hill, alluvial creek flat and south-easterly aspect. Never a follower, Dr Max Lake planted Cabernet Sauvignon, contrary to Hunter Valley wisdom at the time. With their old vines, low crop levels and excellent canopy management, Lake's Folly consistently grows excellent fruit and produces distinguished single site wines. Still operating in the original 1960s winery, they maintain a traditional approach to winemaking.
Lake's Folly has an unerring reputation for their wines. They make three wines, all flagships: one a Cabernet blend and two Chardonnays. All are highly sought after, selling out quickly each year after release.
